October 9 Scripture Selection: Isaiah 40-42

Food for Thought: Is. 40:1-11; 42:1-9

It is wonderful to see how the pieces of the New Testament fit together so nicely with the Old Testament. Several of the lines from today’s selection may sound familiar and bring to your remembrance significant passages that reveal Who God is and what His divine plan is. Let’s review some of them:

Is. 40:3: “The voice of one crying in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord; make straight in the desert a highway for our God.’” John the Baptist quoted this scripture to identify himself when asked who he was (John 1:19-23; also found in Matthew 3 and Mark 1).

Is. 40:6 “…All flesh is grass, and all its loveliness is like the flower of the field. The grass withers, the flower fades, because the breath of the Lord blows…
