Some of the stories in the Bible, while demonstrating the far-superiority of the Lord over all false gods, human authority, and nature do so with irony and wit and always bring a smile to my face as I picture the events that took place.
The story of the Philistines taking the ark of God and placing it next to their god Dagon is one of such cases. To the Philistines’ surprise, the morning after they had placed it in the “house of Dagon,” they found their idol face down before the ark of the Lord. So they propped it up again.
