January 18 Scripture Selection: Exodus 1-3
Food for Thought: Ex. 1:15-21
People make life or death decisions every day, and often under the threat of some authority. Do this, or else… Perhaps it may not be decision to commit outright murder (though it sure could be), but it could cause the death of one’s integrity, reputation, future, relationship, health, finances, or simply, peace of mind and heart. The midwives in Exodus 1 got it right, and serve as a great example to us.
At the risk of their own lives, they did not cave to the threat of the Pharaoh and refused to kill the Hebrew male babies. The fear of the Lord was greater than their fear of the king. With that perspective, their decision on how to proceed was quite easy to make, regardless of the possible consequences.
