I love to be witness to the miracle of a person being born again. The transformation in the spirit is immediate and dramatic. Even outwardly there is a notable difference in the person. In the case of the jailor (and his family), I believe this new-birth experience can be attributed to one thing: love.
When the earthquake occurred, and the doors were opened and the bands were loosed, the jailor expected that everyone had fled and he was about to commit suicide when Paul cried out to him to stop.
Why would Paul care what happened to the jailor? This man was a part of the institution which had unjustly beaten and incarcerated in the most deplorable conditions Paul and Silas. Yet Paul was concerned for the jailor’s life. That’s the love of Christ…
