February 2 Scripture Selection: Matthew 21:23-46

The thing that the chief priests and the elders of the people loved the most was their positions of authority. They did not love God, nor His people, or they would have embraced Jesus for all the good He did and for the powerfully anointed teachings He gave. Instead, they were threatened by Jesus and literally hated Him.
The parable that Jesus puts before them in verses 28-32 reveals that they were all talk, but produced no true, sincere action. They gave the appearance of being quite religious and held the people practically hostage to their oppressive imposition of the law, yet Jesus points out that they themselves did not produce anything of true value.
